BLUEorange Contemporary will host a curated collection of works by employees working at our local Houston fine art museum in the upcoming exhibition Scene Shift | Side Piece: Selected Works, opening Saturday, August 19th. Jurored by Ken General, this exhibition will illuminate the great talent behind the exhibition walls of this major art institution.
The existence of artists in cultural institutions is not a new concept. Sol Lewitt sat behind a museum book counter, Robert Mangold guarded artworks in the summers, and Jeff Koons punched museum exhibition tickets. This artistic tradition is continued in this staff art exhibition as various departments rally around to create Scene Shift | Side Piece.
Working under a unique sphere of influence, staff artists emerge with varying artistic styles, mediums, and points of view. Scene Shift | Side Piece will showcase this variety, giving Houston the chance to see the wide range of talent that lies within one of its cultural hubs. Artists will be present at the opening reception at BLUEorange Contemporary on Saturday, August 19th in the evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and runs through September 16, 2017.
