So you are writing a play, or you would like to. Before you proceed, first consider, what will make a theater company’s artistic director pause, linger, and decide to read the entire text? How will your work stand out amidst the many good new scripts composed every year, and how can you create a script that’s not just good, but great? Next Iteration Theater Company Director Dianne K. Webb reads countless scripts each year, and in this workshop, she will guide new and experienced playwrights in how to produce viable, exciting material for the stage. We will explore character, set, conflict, dialogue, story, timing, and the many other elements that must work together to create a dynamic play, as well as consider a few common pitfalls of writing scripts. Also, we will discover ways that writers can get their work in front of directors.
Next Iteration Theater Company highlights the work of underrepresented voices, and writers from all backgrounds, origins, ethnicities, genders, gender identities, sexualities, religions, and abilities are welcome in this workshop.
