Compay OnStage is very excited to announce auditions for our first round of productions to be performed in our new home in the former Family LIife Center on the campus of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 4930 West Bellfort, Houston, Texas 77035. We are proud to be presenting our series for Children and Young Audiences once more, ecstatic to bring back our Evening Series of productions, and ready to introduce our newest programming gem, our Local Authors series which features evenings of short plays, monologues, and one acts penned by some of Houston's best talent. We love that we have so many talented folks in this city, and the authorship here is rich, diverse, and endless. We hope you enjoy this series as well.

«POE! POE! POE!» October 7 — 29, 2017
Scenes with fantasy (such as the wild heart-beats in «The Tell-Tale Heart») and comedy (the humorous account from «Some Passages in the Life of a Lion» in which Poe satirizes the relationship between himself and his guardian). Although everyone today agrees that Poe is one of America's greatest authors, he found little recognition in his lifetime until the publishing of «The Raven» not long before he died. Among the many touching scenes in this play is the one between Poe and his most loyal editor, Graham, in which Poe is ridiculed and humiliated. And then we hear Poe recite «The Raven» with defiance and passion. The play ends where it began — at Poe's death — not with a quiet death, but a final defiant excerpt from «Life of Thingum Bob, Esq.» in which Poe reveals the meaning of his life: «Through joy, through sorrow, through it all — I wrote!»

He is unable to recall his name, Edgar Allan Poe, or how he arrived in his hallucinatory state. Annabelle drags him to her lover Lucretia’s Memento Mori Shoppe, where Lucretia creates photographs of the dead. Lucretia vows to provide the mysterious stranger a safe place to peacefully pass from the earthly realm. As Death threatens to take Poe to the bowels of hell, Ghosts of his past combine with characters and images from his literary works to torment Poe in his terror of premature burial.
