After 2 years of planning, the time has come! Welcome to Chive Chopped: The Fisher House Challenge. What the hell are we talking about? Houston Chivers will be joining 6 other chapters in the Chive Nation performing a day of service at the Fisher House. All the chapters will spend the day cooking and serving 3 meals to the residents and staff of the house for all they do for our nations veterans and their families.
You know what the Chive part is, but what's the deal with the Chopped part? All the food for this event will be donated and our chefs will craft meals around that donated food. That means that until 48 hours before the event, the chefs will know nothing about what they will be making. Adding to the pressure is each chapter will be live streaming their event on Facebook for entertainment but mostly to raise awareness about the Fisher House as well as their chapter. Don't worry, there will be quite a bit of fun involved too throughout the day!
Now the important part of this, what the hell is the Fisher House? They provide free lodging to veterans and their families during extended stays at VAs across the country. They are completely donation funded and though known within the veteran community, not as much outside of it. That's where we come in. Though this is a day of service for our chapter, we want our Chive community and those that follow us to know about what the Fisher House does and to help spread the word. No longer should they have to describe themselves as " the Ronald McDonald House for veteran families."
What do we need to pull this off? We need your time and passion for helping people. We will need people to help cook, plate, serve and clean. We'll need a positive attitude and dedication to making the world 10% better. These veterans and their families have served and defended our amazing freedoms and this is your chance to say thank you is a different way than has been done before. You in or you out?
