We are returning to Freedmen Town on Juneteenth Weekend to pay respects to the industrious women and men that built thier community in the Swamplands of Buffalo Bayou. We will honor thier legacy of creation, self-determination and self-governance. Then we will create our own unique ways to continue in the tradition of Black Houston's heritage of excellence.
Priscella Graham, Historian and Publisher of «Houston's Freedman Town» will lead our tour! We are honored to have her join us.
This is a family gathering, children and elders welcome. We will pace ourselves so everyone can enjoy the walk. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring hydration.
We will collect a donation to help with expenses. Thank You for supporting this effort.
**Later that evening, we will Meet-Up at the Ensemble Theater to enjoy, «In All Thy Getting: The Forgotten Story Of Freedmen's Town.» Written by Holly Charles, Directed by Allie Woods. Tickets, $25. All proceeds donated to Yates Museum Preservation efforts.
