Meyerland Area Dems and Friends:
Our June 19th meeting will feature newly elected Pearland ISD Trustee Mike Floyd who ran and won at age 18! AND Kellye Burke- who decided to run for West University city council after the shocking 2016 election-and won her race! Let us get inspired and hear how these two ran and won.
Bio on Mike Floyd:
At 18 years old, Mike Floyd is a newly elected member of the Pearland ISD Board of Trustees. He is one of the youngest elected officials in the United States and is a proud Democrat. Mike has staffed two congressional campaigns, managed the 2016 State Representative race in TX HD 29, has run several local races in the City of Pearland, and managed a Presidential campaign in Brazoria County. Mike gained national headlines with his stunning upset in the Pearland Municipal elections, defeating the GOP establishment. A Houston native, Mike will attend the UH Honors College and major in Political Science. Mike comes from a family of 7 with both of his parents being attorneys. Mike will continue to live in Pearland for the remainder of his three year term."
Bio on Kellye Burke:
A native Texan, Kellye Burke has lived in West U for more than 10 years. Since moving to West U in 2006, Burke has worked as an independent business consultant providing project management, performance targets, software selection, and process improvement for industrial and manufacturing clients.
Burke is an active volunteer at church and school: organizing events, serving as room parent, and fundraising. She is also a founding leader of Moms Demand Action, a gun safety advocacy organization founded in 2012 after 20 first graders were murdered in Newtown, CT. In this capacity, Burke helped build the Texas chapter from a handful of volunteers to the most powerful and active chapter in the nation. Kellye served on the national advisory team for BeSMART for Kids, a safe gun storage program designed to reduce unintentional shootings and suicides among children and teens.
After earning her Bachelors of Business Administration from Texas A&M, she began her career in Investment Marketing in San Antonio with USAA, the financial services company serving military members and their families. While working in San Antonio, Burke earned mutual fund sales and stockbroker’s licenses and received her Master’s of Business Administration from St. Mary’s University. She then joined Arthur Andersen as a business consultant, managing client engagements throughout the Southeast U.S. in the Revenue Enhancement practice. She also served as a Change Management instructor at Arthur Andersen’s Center for Professional Development.
Burke and her husband Brad, Managing Director of the Rice Alliance for Entrepreneurship and Technology, are members of Christ the King Lutheran Church. The Burkes can often be found at Colonial Park and Pool with sons, Landon and Colin.
Meetings starts 7pm. Get there early at 6:30pm- seating limited! Many get dinner as well…
