Ivan Sanchez is a Senior Congressional Liaison and Field Representative for the Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee in the 18th Congressional District of Texas. Sanchez was also recently appointed by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner to serve in the Mayors Hispanic Advisory Board, and is the Founder and President of Houston Millennials--a (soon to be) 501©(3) high powered youth networking organization that’s mission is to empower and grow millennial influence in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.

Sanchez graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) as the Student Body President with a bachelor’s of political Science. Sanchez is a recipient of many honors including, but not limited to; a Diploma of Honors by the International Parliament of Education, congratulatory remarks from President Barrack H. Obama, and a United States Congressional Proclamation. In addition he was recognized by the Texas Legislature and the City of Houston for civic initiatives. He is a National Hispanic Professional Organization Leadership Institute Alumni, a graduate of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Emerging Leaders Institute and he was featured on the National Latino Leaders Magazine.
Throughout his young career, Sanchez has dedicated himself to service and leadership with his unwavering passion for advocacy and building stronger communities.

Sanchez was born in a very hostile environment. Following death threats in Colombia, his mother, an accomplished attorney, immigrated with her children to the United States. Although she was successful in her quest, her life was lost to cancer the year Sanchez graduated from High School. The tragedy left Sanchez nearly homeless and disoriented; however, in a daring attempt to dream for a different future he propelled himself into what he saw was the clearest means for success: schoolwork.

Nine (9) years ago, Sanchez was a young immigrant pushing shopping carts at Kroger’s as a disadvantaged minority. Today, he is an empowered professional, pushing legislation in Congress – for the disadvantaged. Sanchez believes that “character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved”*
